What is a fan vibration analysis and why should it be conducted?

Early detection of industrial fan imbalances is important as it assists in preventing damage and reducing costly downtime of your fan. Although imbalance and vibration are not one and the same, fan vibration can occur during the standard operation of your fan, and imbalance may be one of the many causes of this. A fan vibration analysis is a quick health-check that can be conducted on an industrial fan to assist in identifying any potential machinery issues or imbalances.

A fan vibration analysis involves the use of a diagnostic tool called an accelerometer which will measure the vibrations in the horizontal, axial and vertical directions when the fan is being operated at its design speed. This data is then analysed by either a trained analyst, or computer software, who will identify any unusual peaks during operation.

Should fan vibration be occurring during normal operation, it is important to contact your local AirEng representative who will assist in identifying the cause of this vibration and provide a workable solution to ensure your fan continues to operate efficiently and to avoid any costly repairs.
